(Committee Members: Eileen Brett, Linda Gallagher-Lomanto, Dance Teacher Kerry Maloney,
Brendan Moloney, Kelly MacLellan-Byrnes & Kathy O'Keefe-Burke)
On Thursday, June 11 there were lots of Irish eye smiling & laughing as a group of 25+ learned some popular traditional dances at the first "Dancing with the Parade Committee" event held in the room at The Lief Bar (6725 5th Ave) from 7-9pm.
The group was lead by the fabulous, Kerry Maloney, who was raised in Bay Ridge and currently lives and teaches these dances in Staten Island. Kerry informed the group that "Ceili" is the Irish word for "Gathering" and everyone no matter how young or old or coordinated, everyone is there to have a good time. (And a good time was sure had by all!) You don't have to be perfect but try to just be in the right spot.
The dances that were taught that night were the Gay Gordon (easy), Highland Fling (easy) and the Siege of Ennis (moderate). This was a fun night out for all involved!! There was a $5.00 charge which is what the dance teacher charged for her time per person.
Thank you to everyone who came out for this Ceili Dancing class! Stay tuned for the next dance class in the Fall! For more info please email bands@brparade.com.
